Week 2

(Pennak p.157)
This little thing was neat how it swam around. It moved very smoothly through the water.

(Wards 1984)
This one moved in a jerky type motion. It must not be able to see because it ran over everything and got cough up in several things. And when Ken tells you that you have seen this before, believe him or he will make you feel dumb.

(Pennak p.171)
This reminded me of a tadpole the way it swam around.

(Wards 1998)
This thing was cool. It come out and look like this cone you see here and then it would disappear. It did this over and over.

(Patterson p.113)
This was my favorite. It acted like a powerful vacuum cleaner.

A lot has changed from my first day of setting up the micro aquarium. This is the first time I have had a chance to really observe what is going on in there. I spent over 2 hours in the lab looking around in my aquarium. As you can see there are all kinds of little things in there.

Not sure if I have more or less organisms in the aquarium since I didn't have time to really observe it the first day.

I have not found any dead organisms in my aquarium.

First Day of Big Poppie's Micro Aquarium

The water Big Poppie chose for his Micro Aquarium was from the Spring Creek off Woodson Dr running thought Dean's Woods Road frontage., Knox Co. Tennessee. Partial shade exposure. Tennessee River water Shed N35 55.274 W083 56.888 848 ft 10/9/2011 Fissidens fountains moss in stream (McFarland, 2012).

How I set up my micro aquarium was first I took off the bottom stand and the the top that seals the water in. After choosing my water source, from Spring Creek, I took the eye dropper, drew up some water from the bottom where the sediment was, and put it in the aquarium. Next I finished filling up the aquarium with water from the middle and then from the top of the container containing my water source. Last I pinched off some moss, Amblestegium sp., and  a flowering carnivorous plant,Utricularia gibba, ant put it in the aquarium, put on three round stickers with the letters FDE to identify it, and then placed the base and top back on the aquarium (McFarland, 2012).

The first day was cool in Micro Aquarium world. After setting it up and looking at all the little things swimming around in there, one should think twice about opening their mouth under water! About the only thing I could see was a mosquito larva. I also added a moss, Amblestegium sp., and  a flowering carnivorous plant,Utricularia gibba L.(McFarland, 2012).
